When we woke in the morning, we could finally see the awesome sights surrounding our chalet. Snow blanketing everything, and gorgeous mountains galore. We drove a little higher into the mountains and then headed back down and on to Bern, stopping at every breathtaking view along the way (and there were plenty). The Swiss Autostrade was a little friendlier to drive on only because there was a lot less traffic. Everyone still drove at breakneck speeds...minimum 140 Km/h. You've got your fast lane, your very vast lane, and your ludicrous lane. And who the hell invented roundabouts? No real traffic control, just yielding. Yeah, like yielding Italians isn't an enormous oxymoron. Somehow roundabouts seem to work, but it's the lunacy of the concept that blows me away. At least it's better than trying to drive downtown in major Italian cities. No lanes , just prayers. After spending an hour or so looking around Bern, we headed over to Zurich and found a semi-affordable hotel near the airport. The Formula One Hotel was straight out of a vending machine. You could even purchase a room for the night with your credit card through the machine at the door.
