On New Year's Eve, Georgie and I went to Vatican City in hopes of getting tickets to see the Pope the next day and to see the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. I managed to get us tickets to JP2's almost sold out concert on New Year's Day, but the Vatican Museum had a line all the way from the entrance up to St. Peter's Basilica. That's far. About five big city blocks. So we chose to head to Tivoli for the day instead. We met a lovely Mother and daughter from Israel at the train station and went to the Este Gardens with them. The gardens were incredible, vast pools and fountains as well as enormous waterfalls. We took the train back in the eveining and briefly checked out the insane Roman New Year's scene. We rang in the New Year with a bottle of champagne, the Italian version of Dick Clark and immense hope for the future.
