    Igor's Humble Abode, Dubrovnik, Croatia
    12/21/02 22:48 GMT+1

After three days in charming Split, it was time to split. We climbed aboard the bus to Dubrovnik; another coastal paradise four hours South, hailed by some (namely Chris) as a must-see. The drive along the water and through the mountains was (and I use this word now for the first time in my journal for dramatic emphasis) fucking gorgeous! Exquisite blue and green water, precarious mountain cliffs, brilliant sunshine and sunset, adorable coastal towns nestled on cliffs and of course, Bosnia. Yep, the bus drove through and actually stopped at a convenience store in Neum, Bosnia. We bought some ketchup chips at the store. Mmmmm, war-torn potato products.
Upon arrival in Dubrovnik, we were wondering if anyone would be advertising rooms to let like in Split. We looked out of the bus and at least fifteen people flocked to our window with signs advertising their amazing rooms. They literally malled us as we debussed (since we were the only tourists on this one). I tried to swat them off while we retrieved our packs. Then we stood as they swarmed around us and promised us everything we ever dreamed of in a pension. We sorted them into categories and probably should've had them line up so we could properly interview each of them. We ended up going with a guy who was wearing a Canadian army hat (some of our Bosnian Peace Keepers had stayed with him) and a kangaroo pin (it seemed like some sort of sign). He drove us to his beautiful new home. It was unfortunately way out of town so we headed back to the bus station wolfpack for another round of interviews. This time we went with Georgina's pick (mine had fallen through -- always trust a woman's intuition). A nice man named Igor drove us to his average Croatian home where he lived with his average Croatian family right down to his 2.4 Croatian children. They welcomed us with Turkish coffee, mixed nuts and then offered to cook us dinner for a very nominal fee. They made fresh mussels (caught that day) with Croatian wine and bread. After, he made rice soup with the leftover mussel broth. Was it delicious? In the words of Igor, "My friends, of course it is. No problem, no problem."

Gourmet dining - war-torn ketchup chips, turkish coffee, mixed nuts, etc. Sounds like a war-torn stomach ache. Whatever happened to oatmeal and chicken soup?
Pictures, we want pictures. Can you put some recent pictures of you guys and your surroundings on here please. Thank you.
Oh by the way, Clint was rushed out yesterday to go enjoy the final stages of his daughter's labour pains and greet his first grandchild. Whoda thunk it?
    Remember pictures please.
    Luv ya cute stuff.

Mikey was at the top of something in Switzerland last night looking at the Matterhorn. They had rented a car in Italy, drove to Switzerland and were driving back eventually. Beyond this, Andrew, I have nothing to report at this time. Importantly, they are safe and well and having a great time.
    Thanks for caring.
What's up with Tony? Is he back?
How did it go with the future in-laws?
    Let's see pictures.
Take care all. I'll keep you posted.

Mexico!!! Went awesome!!! I got along great with the whole family. Vanni's mom is a great cook, and her dad is very interesting and fun to hang out with. Vanni's brother is great as well. I had lots of time to spend with the family at various family occasions and picked up a bunch of spanish as well. Overall it was a great experiance. Monterray is a great city, very beautiful, with rugged mountains all around it. I liked the myrid of spicey tacos and a lot of stuff, I don't know the name of but was very good. The weather was nice, but I think we brought some Canadian cold weather with us for a couple of days. While we were down there, we found a church for the wedding and a reception / banquet hall for the reception. Both those are booked for June 26, 2004. So that is a mouth full, but I hope to hear from Michaelb, just to know how things are. We think of you often buddy, and look forward to your return. Enjoy Europe and have fun, take as long as you need, but we do miss you, and look forward to seeing your funny face. ! Ciao

    Hi Tony,
I'm glad everything went well. Welcome back. Our fella shouldn't be back for a few weeks yet and if you can't think of something to keep him busy in Victoria, he will, no doubt, be in camp for your wedding.
Take care and keep in touch and I'll let you know what I hear.
